The Carpenter Neuroanatomy (Strong)is a classic textbook of human neuroanatomy, unfortunatelly for more then 17 years there were no re-editions. The former editions of Strong/Elwyns by Carpenter himself were reedited every 5-6 years. The book is the essence of classic neuroanatomy described in great detail, so the reader is obligated to have some advanced neuroanatomical background. As for neuro-clinicians the Carpenter seems too theoretical and overloaded with non clinically relevant histological details, it is scant of modern neuroradiological and clinical correlates. Almost 20 year gap in neuroscientifical knowledge is non negligible.
Happily, waiting for next “Carpenter” edition a book which might easily compete was released:
Clinical Neuroanatomy: Brain Circuitry and Its Disorders by Hans J.ten Donkelaar
This book is more up to date and clinically oriented and seems to be the one of the best clinical -neuroanatomy book in the market.
